Envy, the Deadly Sin with a "Bonus"
Share
Envy is one of the Seven Deadly Sins. By the way, the Seven Deadly Sins were first enumerated by Pope Gregory I in the 6th century and elaborated in the 13th century by St. Thomas Aquinas. They are (1) pride, (2) greed, (3) lust, (4) envy, (5) gluttony, (6) wrath, or anger, and (7) sloth. Each of these can be overcome with the seven heavenly virtues of (1) humility, (2) charity, (3) chastity, (4) gratitude, (5) temperance, (6) patience, and (7) diligence. Enough of that history. I got off the subject.
Anyway, Envy is one of the Seven Deadly Sins. But Envy comes with something else. It is also the sin of dumb people. You might call it a bonus, but not in a good way.
Think about it. With the other sins (lust, greed, gluttony), you at least get something. With envy, you get nothing. All you get is feeling bad. So you’re not only a sinner. You’re stupid too. Envy—DON’T DO IT!
