The Greatest Time and Money Saving Plan Ever

Friends, I present one of the greatest time-saving and money-saving plans of all time.  It may be genius.

For lunch today, I want you to go to CiCi’s All You Can Eat Pizza Buffet.  The all-you-can-eat part is very important. Don't go to some hoity-toity pizza joint that just brings you a couple of slices. It's got to be an unlimited buffet.  With a drink, it will set you back about $15.

Here's what you do: Eat 105 pieces of pizza and 14 bowls of salad. Now, you'll need liquid, so I want you to drink 21 glasses of water. For variety you can drink 10 or so soft drinks or a gallon or two of iced tea. And help yourself to 7 or 8 desserts.

Why you might ask?  I’ll tell you. This is where the genius part comes in: That is enough food for an entire week. You won’t have to eat for the next seven days. And it will only cost you about $15. Plus, imagine the time you will save not having to eat all those other meals.

I have done the math, and the math works. I've looked at the logistics, and the logistics work. This is an incredible money and time saving idea.

So what do you think?

For some reason, my guess is that you think this is a bad idea.

Of course it’s a bad idea. You can’t eat that way.  Your body can’t do it. You need regular, right sized meals. Steady meals in order to fuel your body.

What does this nonsense idea have to do with business?  I'll tell you. We sometimes take business initiatives and make nearly as dumb a decision. They never seems as over-the-top as this eating plan, but they are every bit as unrealistic.

Examples: How about expecting that a big account can be attained with one long sales call, or one giant PowerPoint? What about all day training programs (when our listening brain might be good for 30 minutes)? How about expecting new employees to contribute immediately? Or how about expecting established habits to change with one giant roll-out of a new policy?

The fact is that some things just take time. Just like with eating, they have to be done in small, steady portions in order to really work.

I will finish with a quote by the great business owner and investor Warren Buffett: “No matter how great the talent or efforts, some things just take time. You can't produce a baby in one month by getting nine women pregnant.”
