Company Core Value: Good Morale is Everyone's Job

Shouldn't this be part of every job description and be a Core Value of a company?

We all have a responsibility to promote a positive work environment for our fellow workers.

Think about co-workers who have been fired from their jobs.  How many of them didn't live up to this statement?  My guess is nearly all.

Do a quick Google search of "top reasons people get fired".  The answers aren't surprising.  With the possible exception of "can't perform the functions of the job", nearly every other reason contains a large component of people creating a negative work environment.  Harassment.  Theft.  Willful Insubordination.  Bullying. Unethical behavior.

Now think of co-workers who work to build positive morale. They help fellow workers succeed.  They take actions that benefit others.  They are pleasant to and respectful of others. They work together to help solve problems.  They are willing to pitch in if there is a need.  They teach others as best they can.

How many of these folks have you seen get fired?  I'm sure it is very, very few. Positive people tend to keep their jobs.  Even if they can't do their assigned job description very well, most companies will work to find them a role where they can succeed.  No company wants to lose a well-liked, positive person.

It is a very simple statement:  Everyone has a responsibility to promote a positive work environment.  Yet it is a core ingredient of success or failure for nearly every kind of employee in a company.

That's why I encourage you to make this a company core value.  Include it in every job description.  Make it part of employee reviews.

People spend more of their waking hours at work than anywhere else.  It needs to be a good place where positive teamwork rules the day.
